Title: Brush Your Teeth

Standard: Recognizes practices for proper dental hygiene.

Topic: Science Inquiry, Process Skills and Problem Solving

Standard: Asks questions, makes and keeps simple records of observations, sorts and classifies objects, communicates with others, makes predictions, uses estimation and measurement, and makes sketches and diagrams to explain ideas.

Specific Lesson Objectives:

The students will learn:

• the proper way to clean their teeth.
• that without brushing, teeth will become stained.

Materials:

• Hard boiled eggs
• Coke
• Toothpaste
• Toothbrush
• Cups with water for dipping toothbrush

Procedures: Prior to class, soak the hard-boiled eggs in coke for about thirty minutes. After the eggs have soaked, pass out one egg and one toothbrush per group. Give the students a bit of toothpaste on their toothbrush. Students can then take turns brushing the egg making sure that they use proper brushing techniques. Once the egg comes clean, they are finished brushing. This shows the students just how well they need to brush their teeth each day.
